History

During the time of the Russian Empire, the city of Tsarevokokshaysk was part of the Tsarevokokshaysky district of the Kazan province .

February 17, 1919 Tsarevokokshaysk was renamed Krasnokokshaysk, and Tsarevokokshaysky district - in Krasnokokshaysky. June 18, 1920 became part of the Vyatka province . November 4, 1920 adopted the Decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR on the formation of the Mari Autonomous Region . On November 25, the administrative-territorial division was determined, which fixed Krasnokokshaysk as the administrative center of the autonomous region. On January 15, 1921, the Krasnokokshaysky district was renamed the Krasnokokshaysky canton.

In 1924, a new administrative-territorial structure was introduced in the Mari Autonomous Region. The Krasnokokshai canton was disaggregated, and the Morkinsky and Orsha cantons separated from it.

To manage the affairs of the city itself, in 1927 a city council was formed, which was subordinate to the canton. In January 1928, Krasnokokshaysk was called Yoshkar-Ola, and the canton became known as Yoshkar-Ola. In 1932, the cantons were renamed to districts.

In December 1943, Medvedevsky was separated from Yoshkar-Ola District. The rest continued to be called the Yoshkar-Ola region. In 1946, the regional institutions were transferred to the village of Semenovka , and the district became known as Semenovskiy. In this form, it existed until 1959 and was merged with the Medvedevsky district.

From October 18, 1988 to July 5, 2005, the city district included Sidorovsky , Kundyshsky , Kuyarsky and Kokshaysky village councils and the village of Airport . By law No. 22-Z of July 5, 2005 they were transferred to the administrations of the Medvedevsky and Zvenigovsky districts. The settlement of Nolka , which was part of the Sidorovsky Village Council and was its administrative center, and the Semenov Village Council, later renamed the Semenov Territorial Administration [9] [10], remained subordinate to the administration of the city district.

As of January 18, 2008, in addition to the city of Yoshkar-Ola, the following settlements were included in the urban district [11] ): Akshubino village, Apsakakelyak village, Danilovo village, Ignatievo village, Kelmakovo village, Nolka , village of Savino , s. Semenovka , village Shoya-Kuznetsovo , village Yakimovo .
