Club career

Gönen is a graduate of the Izmir football club Goztepe , for whose youth team he played until 2005, after which he moved to Denizlispor at the age of 16, in which he began his professional career. For the 2006/07 season of the Turkish Super League, Gönen first entered the application of the main team, but he did not have a game practice. Gönen spent the second half of the 2007/08 season in the club of the first league Altai , for which he played 12 matches. Returning to Denizlispor from the lease, Gönen became the team's main goalkeeper. In this capacity, he played two seasons for Denizlispor, having a total of 35 matches played in the Turkish Championship. In the 2009/10 season, the team took the penultimate place in the championship and left the Super League.

In the summer of 2010, Gönen in exchange for defender Emre Ozkan and 1 million euros moved to one of the leading Turkish clubs - Besiktas [1] . The team, headed by German coach Bernd Schuster at that time, already had two more experienced goalkeepers - honored veteran Ryštyu Rechber and Hakan Arikan, who has been playing for Besiktas since 2007. In his first season at the new club, Gönen shared playing time with other goalkeepers. The young goalkeeper managed to make his debut in European competitions - he played four matches in the UEFA Europa League and became the owner of the 2010/11 Turkish Cup , although he did not take part in the final match. The following season, Gönen became the main goalkeeper of Besiktas after Arikan left the team. However, already in the 2012/13 season, Allan McGregor , the Scottish newcomer to Besiktas, squeezed out of the main squad Guenena, and later he lost the competition to the Tolga Zengin, who came from Trabzonspor in the summer of 2013.

On August 28, 2015, Gönen moved to Galatasaray for 600 thousand euros. Goalkeeper contract with the club was concluded for a period of three years [2] . Gönen in “Galatasaray” became the reserve goalkeeper, replacing Fernando Musler .

Two days later, Gönen spent his second match for the Turkish national team, replacing Ryushtu Reckber in the 42nd minute of a friendly match with the Finnish national team .
