Biography
1966-1992
It so happened that her career ended in Asia, in Vietnam, where she went in 1966 as part of a USO tour to speak to soldiers. She fell ill with pneumonia, and it took her several months to recover. The tour, at the beginning of 1967, left, leaving her all alone in an unfamiliar country, where there were practically no phones. With incredible adventures, with peasants on carts and walking through the rice fields, she reached Bangkok, the American naval base, but there she became worse again. She was sent by air to a hospital in the Philippines, where she recovered for four months. As a result, she remained in the Philippines and lived there for 21 years. In the city of Olongapo, she began a new life, headed a night club there [2] .
In 1988, she returned to America [2] and again began recording and performing. According to Rolling Stone magazine website, it was one of the rare happy endings in the history of early rhythm and blues [1] .
