History and Creativity

The musical ensemble "Exprompt" was created by Alexei and Olga Kleschenko in Petrozavodsk in 1995. Initially, the group was a quintet , but over time, the musicians refused to use percussion instruments and settled on the classical form of a quartet .

“The main distinguishing feature of the EXPROMPT quartet is the individual arrangement of the performed works and the non-trivial selection of material, demonstrating the excellent taste of the performers and their understanding of the charm of real music ” [1] .

The quartet’s repertoire is based on Russian traditional music in original arrangements. However, in almost any of the programs of today's Exprompt concerts, one can invariably find the names of such composers as Django Reinhardt , Astor Piazzolla , Alfred Schnittke , Albin Repnikov or Vincento Fiorino.

Since 1998, Exprompt has become a laureate of several international competitions in Italy and Germany. In particular, the quartet won the first prize at the international competition Citta 'di Castelfidardo and a bronze medal at the Astor Piazzolla competition in Italy.

In 2002, the quartet took part in the European tour of Ritchie Blackmore (ex-guitarist of the legendary band Deep Purple ) with the Blackmore's Night project.

In 2008, Exprompt became the owner of the prestigious European Eiserner Eversteiner World Music Award at the Plauener Folkherbst competition in Germany and the only team from Russia to date has been awarded this award for its entire existence. It is from this moment that the “new life” of the quartet begins - active touring in Europe and Russia.

“The musicians managed to create a synthesis of the best traditions of Russian folklore and folk music with the traditions of the classical chamber genre - a quartet , which is characterized not only by its filigree performance and amazing ensemble play, but also by the charm and great emotional impact of the performers.” [2]

In 2009, Exprompt collaborated with Soviet composer Oscar Borisovich Feltsman . A concert was dedicated to his work, where, on the recommendation of the composer, rarely performed romances were sung to the verses of Inna Lisnyanskaya .

The Exprompt quartet has repeatedly participated in many international festivals , including Folkbaltica and the largest festival of folklore and world music ( Weltmusik ) in Europe - TFF Rudolstadt .

"Exprompt" is able to penetrate the soul! And this is something completely unusual, what professional musicians do with you: from the monotonous sound of the bell to J. Reinhardt's swing, the other sounding or from Figaro’s complaints in his cavatine from J. Rossini’s opera The Barber of Seville.

- Ralph Snurava, Sueddeutsche Zeitung

World music or “ World music ”, as a musical direction, becomes the main one in the repertoire policy of the quartet.

The European and Russian broadcasting companies such as WDR (West Deutsche Rundfunk) , MDR - Figaro (Mittele Deutsche Ruhdfunk) , HR2 (Hessischer Rundfunk Frankfurt am Main), NDR (Nord-Deutsche Rf) have in their library audio and video recordings of concerts of the Exprompt quartet. Channel Russia Culture and Radio Orpheus (Russia).

In 2011, the German broadcaster WDR] broadcast live from the Exprompt concert in the famous Oetker-Halle concert hall in Bielefeld. (Germany)

Since 2012, Exprompt has been connecting creative friendship with the People's Artist of Russia, Sergei Petrovich Nikonenko . The fruit of collaboration was the program “ God's Pipe ”. This is a literary and musical composition dedicated to the work of the Russian poet, Sergei Yesenin . Songs on Yesenin's verses in this program were performed by Valery Kucherenko (tenor, Moscow).

In 2014, Exprompt re-participated in the famous TFF Rudolstadt European Festival in Germany. At the same time, double bass player Yevgeny Tarasenko represented Russia in the Magic Bass project as part of the festival. The peculiarity of the project was that musicians from different countries playing bass instruments such as serpent , bass saxophone , bass clarinet , Mongolian double bass, Russian balalaika-double bass, bass guitar and classical violin double bass created a joint program and performed it on several concert venues of the festival. The concert was recorded by the German radio company BR-Klassik .

In 2018, EXPROMPT became the finalist of the unique project of the TV channel Russia Culture [1] , the “4x4 Quartet” and thus entered the four best quartets of Russia.
