Hugo Wilhelm von Zimsen (December 13, 1829, Greifswald - January 21, 1902, Munich ) is a German medical therapist and clinician, medical writer, teacher, secret adviser, director of the municipal hospital.

Biography

Hugo Wilhelm von Jimsen was born into a family of Swedish immigrants. In 1848 he entered the University of Greifswald to study medicine, then moved to Berlin and later to the University of Würzburg , where he completed his education. After that, he spent a year in Wurzburg as an assistant to Rudolf Virchow . From 1852 to 1854 he studied again at the University of Greifswald, where he received a doctorate in medicine . In the same year, he passed the state commission exam for the right to practice medicine with honors and then until 1861 worked as an assistant to renowned medical scientists in Greifswald.

In 1856, he defended his rehabilitation thesis and from the same year began to give lectures at the University of Greifswald; in 1861 he was appointed extraordinary professor at this university. In 1863 he moved to work at the University of Erlangen , where he was appointed professor at the Department of Pathology and Clinical Therapy and at the same time director of the clinic at the university. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871 , he led a medical train from Nuremberg to France and worked at the Metz hospitals. In 1874 he became a professor at the department at the University of Munich and headed the municipal hospital in this city. In 1877 he created a clinical institute at the university. In 1898, he initiated the creation of the Faculty of Hydro-, Mechano-Electro-Therapy and Physiotherapy at the University of Munich. In 1899 he became an honorary citizen of the city, after his death, one of the streets of Munich was named in his honor.

Tsimsen's main works related to methods of treating inflammation of lung and typhoid diseases, diseases of the larynx and esophagus. He also dealt with the use of electricity in therapy. His composition Handbuch der speciellen Pathologie und Therapie (17 volumes, Leipzig, 1875–1884 and later; in collaboration with many German scholars (including Handbuch der Hygiene und der Orewerbekrankheiten, together with Pettenkofer, was especially famous) Leipzig, 1882–1886) and “Handbuch der allgemeinen Therapie” (1880–1884). Most of both “Handb.” Are translated into Russian “Die Elektrizität in der Medizin” (5th edition - 1887, translated into Russian ); “Pleuritis und Pneumonie im Kindesalter” (1862); “Die Kaltwasserbehandlung des Typhus” (together with Immermann, 1870); “Ueber die Behandlung des Magengeschwürs” (1871); “Klinische Vortrage” (1887, Russian translation); ““ Pharmaco pea clinica "(5 editions, 1890). In addition, Zimsen published the works produced at his clinical institute in 3 volumes (Leipzig, 1884-1993;" Annalen der städtischen Krankenhäuser in München "(hospital reports, 1878-1896) ) Since 1865, he edited with Deutsche Archiv für klinische Medizin together with Zeller.
