According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 2,448,000 km 2 , of which 2,379,000 km 2 is land and 68,000 km 2 or 2,800% is water.
Population
According to the 2000 census [1] , 48,080 inhabitants live in the district as a part of 19,157 households and 13,141 families . The population density is 20.00 people per km 2 . There are 21,804 residential buildings on the territory of the district, with a building density of about 9.00 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: white - 84.16%, African Americans - 1.79%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 7.53%, Asians - 0.53%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 1.98 %, representatives of two or more races - 4.00%. Hispanic made up 4.25% of the population, regardless of race .
31.90% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18, 54.70% of households are married couples living together, 10.20% of households are single women without a spouse, 31.40% of households households are not related to families , 27.90% of households are one person, 13.10% of households are elderly (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.45 people, and the average family size is 2.99 people.
