Biography

He began his creative career as the bandmaster of the Opera House in Odessa and the National Theater in Innsbruck. In 1865, as a bandmaster at the Vienna Karl Theater, he worked with Franz von Zuppe. From 1866 to 1869 he served in the 17th Infantry Regiment of the Austro-Hungarian Army with a deployment in Bolzano. From 1869 to 1870 he served in the 23rd regiment in Petrovaradin, and then, in 1871, in the 20th regiment in Krakow.

He became very famous as a conductor and composer of military music from 1872 to 1880 while serving in the 25th Infantry Regiment , which at that time was located in Prague. In the same 1880, he became the representative of Austria-Hungary at the international festival of military bands in Brussels. At this time, he wrote Erzherzog Friedrich-Marsch, dedicated to Archduke Friedrich, who at that time also served in the 25th regiment, and the Stefania gavotte, dedicated to Rudolph’s bride, Princess Stefania of Belgium. From 1880 to 1883, he served as military bandmaster of the 44th Infantry Regiment in Trieste. In 1884, the premiere of his operetta Pfingsten in Florenz, which was a great success (like his other operettas) throughout Austria-Hungary, Germany and Italy, premiered in Florence and Vienna. Thanks to this work, Tsibulka soon became famous in the United States. Subsequently, from 1883 to 1887 he served as military bandmaster in the 31st Infantry Regiment , located in Vienna, and from 1891 to 1894 in the 19th . He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery.

In total, he wrote more than 400 works, including compositions for the orchestra, marches and dance music. Of his stage works, the operettas Pfingsten in Florenz (1884) and Der Glücksritter (1887) are best known. Most of his compositions are in the music collection of the Vienna City Library.
