Volcano (special forces)

DOS Volcano is a Russian special unit of the Office of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic of the Southern Federal District . As part of the combined forces of the special forces took part in the first Chechen war and counter-terrorism operation in the North Caucasus . It specializes in warfare in highlands.

Preparation

History and Combat Path

The unit was created by order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation of February 26, 1993. Initially, it consisted of 28 employees, then the staff was increased to 48, then to 70.

  • 1995-1996: provided access control at checkpoints with Ingushetia .
  • September 1999: the liberation of the villages of Karamahi and Chabanmakhi from the Wahhabis .
  • winter 1999-2000: military operations in the village of Goragorskoye ( Nadterechny district , Chechen Republic )
  • Summer 2000: Sweeping Gudermes .
  • September 2002: combat clashes with a gang of Ruslan Gelayev in the area of ​​the village of Galashki ( Ingushetia )
