Paul Schad ( German: Paul Schad ) [4] or Pavel Meliss , Pavel Meliss Shedy ( lat. Paulus Melissus Schedius ; December 20, 1539, Melrichstadt - February 3, 1602, Heidelberg) - German humanist writer, poet , translator and composer , librarian diplomat. He wrote his works in Latin.

Biography
He received his secondary education at a school in Zwickau, then in 1557-1559 he studied philology in Erfurt and Jena. In 1559 he became a court cantor, in 1560 he moved to Vienna, where a year later he became a court poet and where he lived until 1564. Then he lived in Prague, Wittenberg and Leipzig, for some time was at the residence of the Bishop of Würzburg, participated in hostilities in Hungary. He was a diplomat in the service of Emperors Maximilian II and Rudolph II and, on their instructions, made trips to France, Switzerland, Italy and England in 1567-1586. In the last years of his life, he was the chief librarian of the Palatine Library in Heidelberg.
Major works: “Pauli Melissi schediasmata poëtica” (Heidelberg, 1574); Odae palatinae (ibid., 1588); "Meletematum piorum libri VIII" (1595). He also published the work “Psalmen in deutschen Gesangreimen” (ibid., 1572), which is a translation of the psalm of David into German. He was also a translator into German of the works of Clement Maro and Theodore Beza. He was considered one of the founders of German sonnets and tercines, as well as Latin-speaking German love lyrics.
