Biography
Jacques Charavet was born into a family of furniture craftsman, an Egyptian campaign veteran Napoleon I, also engaged in bookselling. First he worked as a clerk in a law office, in 1835 - thanks to a bribe given by his family members - he became a bailiff in Lyon.
