History

In the scribe books of 1629-30, Papulino is listed behind Prince Ivan Bokhovsky as “his father’s old estate”. It had the yards of landowners and clerks and 6 peasant yards. In the salary books of 1676, Papulino is listed as a village in the parish of the graveyard of Vasilyevsky, Murom County. At that time there were: a boyar's yard and 20 peasant households. The wooden church in Papulin was built for the first time in 1769. In 1881, the church burned down. In 1883-84, a new wooden church with a bell tower was built instead of the burnt church. There are two thrones in the church: the main one in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, in the chapel in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. At the end of the 19th century, the parish consisted of the village of Papulina, the village of Chabyshev and the village of Nova, which included 454 men and 468 women according to the clearing lists. During the years of Soviet Power, the church was completely lost.

Before the revolution, the village was the center of the Papulinsky volost of the Melenkovsky district .

Since 1929, the village was the center of the Papulinsky village council of the Melenkovsky district .
