Cheval, Emil

He had a law degree and worked in the province as a clerk in a notary's office; his first novel was published during this period of his life under the pseudonym Emil Rossi . Then he decided to try to start a career in Paris and moved to the capital, but did not succeed there, returned to the provinces and got a job as a school teacher and soon got married. Subsequently, however, he managed to get a job in the War Department and even head one of his departments. This allowed him to move to Paris again and devote all his free time to writing various works.

Chevalet’s creative heritage is great and varied: he wrote novels, short stories, travel essays, libretto for operettas and vaudeville , essays on history, philosophy and economics, articles on various topics and even study guides for regimental schools, without indicating the author’s name. As a journalist collaborating with the newspapers Corsaire and Le Figaro , he wrote a series of articles for the military journal Journal de l'armée territoriale under the pseudonym Théols and completed the publication of the military administrative dictionary.

Major works: Amélie ou la grisette de province, La quiquengrogne, Mémoires d'une pièce de cinq francs, as well as Précis d'Histoire moderne et contemporaine (1865), Histoire politique et militaire de la Prusse depuis ses origines jusqu'à 1867 ”(1867),“ Mon Journal pendant le siège et la Commune ”(1871),“ Question sociale ”(1882) ^[3] .
