Details of his biography are unknown. In addition to the approximate date of death, it is only known that he was born in Vienne and in 1494 was in Lyon, where he was ordered to write a mystery for King Charles VIII who was there [1] .

Chevale was the author of many poetic mysteries, of which only one, consisting of about 20,000 verses, “La vie de sainct Christofle” (Grenoble, 1530), has been preserved. Being released in 1530, it is supposed to have been written around 1516 and in 1527 was slightly modified by the author. The original of this mystery in modern times was considered a great bibliographic rarity. Extracts from this mystery were included in the third volume of the History of the French Theater, written by the monk Brother Parfe.
