Life and career
Dacosta was born in Harlem, New York. In 2004, she took second place in the third season of the American reality model Top Model , and in the following years she re-qualified as an actress, making her debut on the big screen with the main female role in the film Keep the Rhythm (2006) [1] .
Dakosta had supporting roles in several films, including The Messenger , The Kids Are Alright , and The Butler . On television, she played a minor role in the daily soap opera All My Children , and then played the daughter of Vanessa Williams character in the TV series The Ugly Girl [2] . She also appeared in Law and Order: Special Corps , Army Wives , Body Investigation , and Doctor House . In 2012, she married director Joshua Alafiya and soon gave birth to a child [3] . In December 2014, they broke up [4] .
In 2014, Dacosta got the role of Whitney Houston in the biographic television movie Lifetime Channel “Whitney”, which became the directorial debut of Angela Bassett [5] [6] . This led her to roles in the films "Bolden!" And " Good Guys " [7] [8] . After a breakthrough with a role in Whitney, Dacosta received several offers as part of the pilot season of 2015 [9] . Of these, she chose a central role in the spin-off of the NBC series Chicago Firefighters - Chicago Medics [9] [10] .
