History
Work on the creation of an armored medical vehicle based on the BTR-70DI armored personnel carrier began in 2008 [2] , in 2011 a demonstration model, called the BTR-70SM , was presented (later, it was transferred to the Department of Disaster Medicine and Military Medicine of Ternopil Medical University )
In 2014, the work was completed, at the beginning of summer 2014 the production of the final version of the armored vehicle, which received the official name BMM-70 "Ark" [2] (in addition, in the open press there is an unofficial name for the armored car - “Sanctuary Mikolai ") [5] .
In the manufacture of serial BMM-70, the ready-made armored corps of the Soviet armored personnel carrier BTR-70 from factory stocks is used [2] .
The cost of manufacturing the first BMM-70 without medical equipment in July 2014 [6] amounted to 650 thousand hryvnias [7] .
In total, by the end of November 2014, six BMM-70s were produced (four of them were built with state budget funds and two more with extrabudgetary funds and donations) [4] .

BMM-70 is designed to provide first aid and transportation of the wounded (including seriously injured) from hard-to-reach areas, accident zones, natural disasters and military operations [1] .
The crew of the armored car - 3 people (driver, doctor and orderly) [1] [2] .
In addition, the BMM-70 can take from 7 to 11 wounded (or 11 lightly wounded in a sitting position, or six recumbent "heavy" and three sedentary "lungs", or four recumbent and three sedentary) [2] .
Armament is absent [2] .
Compared with the BTR-7 armored personnel carrier, the internal volume of the hull is increased, a stretcher, an elevator for loading the wounded, medical equipment (surgical table [8] , an oxygen breathing apparatus, a refrigerator, a defibrillator , boxes for storing medicines and medical instruments, etc.) are installed inside. [1] and air conditioning [8] .
The BMM-70 provides for the installation of a set of lattice anti-cumulative screens , which are produced by the Nikolaev Diesel Locomotive Repair Plant [9] . The first such kit was developed on an initiative basis, manufactured and installed on an armored car in August 2014 [10] .
In February 2015, BMM-70s, which had already arrived in units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, began to be understaffed with an additional first-aid kit [11] .
On March 19, 2015, the director of the Nikolaev armored plant A. M. Shvets reported that the design of the base model BMM-70 was amended and all previously released BMM-70s were equipped with a washstand [8] .
Options and Modifications
BMM-70 is available in two versions:
- with two gasoline engines (production cost, as of August 2014 - 979 thousand hryvnias [2] , at the end of October 2014 - 1 million hryvnias [12] )
- with two Iveco diesel engines (production cost, as of August 2014 - over 1.5 million hryvnias) [2]
Armed
- Ukraine - July 29, 2014 the first BMM-70 [13] was transferred to the 79th separate airmobile brigade [14] . It is reported that by the end of August 2014, six BMM-70s were manufactured, and two more cars were ordered [2] . According to other sources, the production of the sixth BMM-70 was completed only on October 23, 2014 [12] [15] [5] .
