According to the AllMusic music site, “[the band] Santana is a fundamental representative of the Latin rock style, mainly because of the combination of Latin percussion (cong, cymbals, etc.) with the characteristic piercing sound of Carlos Santana’s lead guitar” [1] .
The group started as a psychedelic one, and as such enjoyed great success in the late 1960s and early 1970s, becoming the last successful artist to emerge from the San Francisco psychedelic scene.
In the early 1970s, as the founding members left it, the group's style changed to a more “thoughtful and jazz” one. The name “Santana” remained under the complete control of Carlos Santana, and under his leadership and with a changing composition, the group enjoyed steady commercial success for the next 25 years. In the mid-1990s, the popularity of the group's recordings declined, but its concerts around the world still attracted large audiences [1] .
In 1999, with the Supernatural album (recorded with the participation of a large number of invited stars), the group monumentally returned to the first lines of the charts, creating a name for itself among the new generation of listeners. The album not only became the best-selling in the history of the group, but was also highly noted by the music community, collecting a lot of Grammy awards [1] .
