History
In December 1975, shortly after Angola became an independent country from Portugal , Cape Verde and Angola entered into an agreement on friendship and mutual assistance. During the civil war in Angola, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau were transit points for Cuban troops on their way to Angola to fight against UNITA rebels and the South African armed forces . In the 1980s, Cape Verdean Prime Minister Pedro Pires sent a soldier from the Guinean and Cape Verdean African Independence Parties to Angola, where they served as the personal bodyguards of the President of Angola, Jose Eduardo dos Santos. [1] Currently, Domingos Pereira Magalhaesh is the Ambassador of Cape Verde in Angola [2] .
