Biography
Born into a peasant family. Father - a participant in the Great Patriotic War, died in 1945 during the assault on Koenigsberg . After the death of his mother in 1945, he remained an orphan.
After graduating from the Vitebsk Machine-Tool College in 1958, he served in the Soviet Army in the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ( Besovets garrison ).
After serving in the army, he worked at the Onega Tractor Plant in Petrozavodsk , then at the Tyazhbummash plant , where he went from a toolmaker to a secretary of the plant’s party committee (1964-1974).
In 1974-1985 he worked in the Petrozavodsk City Committee of the CPSU , the Karelian Regional Committee of the CPSU .
In 1985-1986 - First Secretary of the Kostomuksha City Committee of the CPSU.
In 1987-1990 - Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Petrozavodsk City Council of People's Deputies.
