The first ten seasons of the KHL
2008/09
The first championship of the Continental Hockey League is considered by the organizers to be experimental. It took place from September 2, 2008 to April 12, 2009. The KHL was established on the basis of the Russian Hockey Super League and in the 2008/09 season it includes 24 clubs, including 21 clubs from Russia, as well as one club each from Belarus, Latvia and Kazakhstan.
The league is divided into 4 divisions of 6 clubs. In the regular part of the KHL Championship, each club holds 4 games with each club of its division, as well as 2 games with each club of the other divisions. Thus, this part of the championship consists of 56 rounds. According to the results of the regular championship, 16 teams are determined to play the Gagarin Cup in the playoff series. The number of these 16 teams will include one best team from each division, as well as 12 teams that scored the most points during the regular season among the other 20 teams.
The first washer in the history of the KHL was the Riga Dinamo Oleksandr Nizhivy who hit the gates of Khabarovsk Amur on September 2, 2008. The winner of the regular season was the Ufa “Salavat Yulaev” . The winner of the Gagarin Cup was Kazan Ak Bars
2009/10
The second Continental Hockey League Championship was held from September 10, 2009 to April 27, 2010. The champion and winner of the Gagarin Cup for the second time in a row was Kazan “Ak Bars”. Also Kazan club won the Discovery Cup . The winner of the regular season and the winner of the Continent Cup for the second year in a row was Ufa “Salavat Yulaev” . It is noteworthy that in all fifteen playoff series, the victory was won by the team that won the first match of this series.
2010/11
The third Continental Hockey League Championship was held from September 8, 2010 to April 16, 2011 . The Gagarin Cup, the title of the KHL Champion, and with it the title of the Champion of Russia was won by the Ufa “Salavat Yulaev” , who beat Atlas in the Gagarin Cup final with a score of 4: 1. Moscow Dynamo won the regular season and Continental Cup winner - Omsk Avangard
2011/12
The fourth championship of the Continental Hockey League took place from September 7, 2011 to April 25, 2012 . In connection with the plane crash near Yaroslavl , the championship was suspended and its resumption was postponed to September 12 . [1] The official closing ceremony of the hockey season was held on May 23, 2012. HC Dynamo became the champion and winner of the Gagarin Cup. The Chelyabinsk Tractor became the winner of the regular season and winner of the Continent Cup. The Ufa “Salavat Yulaev” became the winner of the Discovery Cup.
2012/13
The Fifth Continental Hockey League Championship started on September 4, 2012 and ended on April 17 , 2013 . For the second time in a row , Dynamo MH won the Gagarin Cup and won the Chelyabinsk Tractor with a score in the 4: 2 series in the finals. The St. Petersburg SKA won the regular season and Continental Cup. Winner of the Discovery Cup was Dynamo HC M.
2013/14
The 6th Continental Hockey League Championship began on September 4, 2013 and ended on April 30 , 2014 . The first winner of the Gagarin Cup was Metallurg (Magnitogorsk).
2014/15
The Seventh Continental Hockey League Championship began on September 3, 2014 . The winner of the regular season, the winner of the Continent Cup and the champion of Russia became the Moscow CSKA. For the first time SKA won the Gagarin Cup.
2015/16
The Eighth Continental Hockey League Championship began on August 24, 2015 . The winner of the Discovery Cup for the first time became the Moscow CSKA. It was also the first time in the history of the KHL that CSKA won the Continent Cup for the second year in a row. This year Magnitogorsk METALLURG became the winner of the Gagarin Cup, beating the winner of the regular season and the main favorite of CSKA with a score in the series 4-3. The all-star match of this season was held in Moscow for the second time. He was the most productive. In this match, held at the VTB Ice Palace, the team of the West beat the team of the East with an incredible score of 28-23.
2016/17
The Ninth Continental Hockey League Championship began on August 22, 2016. Winner of the Discovery Cup became Magnitogorsk “Metallurg” , who beat CSKA Moscow. CSKA won the Continent Cup for the third year in a row. SKA St. Petersburg and Metallurg Magnitogorsk met in the Gagarin Cup finals, who beat Lokomotiv and Ak Bars in the finals of their conferences, respectively. Matches will take place: April 8, 10, 16 and 20 in Magnitogorsk on the Metallurg arena; April 12, 14 and 18 in St. Petersburg in the Ice Palace. It is noteworthy that the finalists beat their rivals with the same score in the series: 4-0. This happened in the KHL only in the 2013/14 season. In that season, the Prague Lion and the same Magnitogorsk Metallurgist, who also beat their rivals (Lokomotiv and Salavat Yulaev respectively), fought with the same score in the series: 4-1 in the Gagarin Cup final.
2017/18
Due to financial problems, the Croatian club Medvesčak and Metallurg (Novokuznetsk) did not participate in the tenth Continental Hockey League Championship.
Second ten seasons of KHL
2018/19
The eleventh Continental Hockey League Championship began on September 1, 2018. The winner of the Discovery Cup was SKA, who beat Ak Bars.
