Vadim Sergeyevich Bochkarev (born September 26, 1939 , Novocherkassk ) is a Soviet and Russian archaeologist, historian, culturologist. Dr. honoris causa , Honorary Professor of the Higher Anthropological School (Moldova).

He graduated from the historical and philological faculty of Rostov State University , where he studied in 1957-1962. In 1962-1968 he was a graduate student of the Department of Archeology at the History Department of Leningrad State University .
Since 1968 he has been working at the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences (until 1991 - LOIA AN USSR), now a senior researcher at the Department of Archeology of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The defense of the Ph.D. dissertation prepared under the direction of M. I. Artamonov “Metal production of the Late Bronze Age of the Northern Black Sea Region” (abstract of 1975) did not take place due to the resistance of academician B. A. Rybakov . According to the memoirs of L. S. Klein, the defense was successful, the Council unanimously concluded that it is possible to petition the Higher Attestation Commission for the award of a doctorate. But VAK did not approve the decision. Since the Council did not provide other proposals, and the validity of the defense documents passed, it was proposed to go through the procedure for the defense of the candidate dissertation a second time. What Bochkarev refused (Klein, 2010, p. 152).
Since 1981, he also teaches at the Department of Archeology of St. Petersburg State University (senior lecturer).
The author of more than 70 published scientific papers, including four monographs .
