Aircraft
Let L-200D Morava with registration number CCCP-34469 (factory - 170830) was released in Czechoslovakia in September 1961 and transferred to the customer - the Main Directorate of Civil Air Fleet under the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union . At the time of the incident, it was operated in the Bykovskiy United Aviation Squad (175 flight squad) of the Moscow Office of Special Applications and local civilian air lines. His total operating time was 1606 flight hours [1] .
Holocaust
On September 2, the plane performed a F-49 passenger flight from Moscow ( Bykovo Airport ) to Gomel with an intermediate landing in Bryansk , piloted itG.K. Kudryavtsev . The next day, the pilot began to prepare for the return flight F-50 to Moscow, when it turned out that if you press button No. 2 , then shaking occurred in the right engine, the rotation speed dropped to 400 rpm. The malfunction was reported to the dispatcher and the head of the engineering and aviation service section of the Gomel Joint Aviation Squad (IAO GOAO), after which the departure of the side 34469 was canceled. On the morning of the next day ( September 4 ) at 08:30 Moscow time, pilot Kudryavtsev reported to the dispatcher that together with the aircraft technician he had eliminated the engine malfunction by clearing the magneto contacts and received permission to fly. At 09:28 Moscow time , F-50 flight with two passengers and a pilot on board flew from Gomel Airport [1] .
At 10:30 Moscow time , following at an altitude of 300 meters, the F-50 flight entered the zone of the Bryansk airport , and the pilot requested landing conditions. However, after a minute and a half, Kudryavtsev reported that the aircraft had “interruptions in the right engine”, and at 10:33 reported that “the right engine was plugged.” When at 10:34 the dispatcher asked where the plane was, the pilot answered: I am on the outskirts of the city . At 10:36, the dispatcher asked about the flight conditions, to which he received an answer: speed 160, height 170 . At 10:37, the pilot reported following a course of 110 °, after which he no longer contacted [1] .
It is established that, having passed the distant driving radio station, the pilot Kudryavtsev began to make a left turn, that is, to the working engine, with the flaps released at 15 °. During such a maneuver, there was a loss of altitude, therefore, turning 320 °, the airliner was dangerously low altitude. Trying to correct the situation, the pilot by his actions led to a drop in speed, as a result, the plane went into a tailspin and crashed into the roof with the left wing plane 52 at Plekhanov Street , which is 6 kilometers from the airport, and demolished the veranda. Turning around 180 °, the car fell into the street, the nose of the fuselage collapsed, all those on board were seriously injured. Two hours after the accident, the pilot Kudryavtsev died in hospital from his injuries, becoming the only victim of the disaster [1] .
Reasons
According to the conclusion of the commission, one of the main reasons for the accident was that the aircraft was allowed to fly, although its right engine had an operating time of 81 hours more than the established resource. Another main reason was the admission of the aircraft to flight at the Gomel airport, despite the fact that it was not inspected, and the reasons for the jolting and falling engine speed were not identified. The State Research Institute of Civil Aviation could not establish what caused such malfunctions. It was not possible to establish why the right engine turned off during the flight. An accidental shutdown could happen only because the lever of the high-altitude corrector was in the “rich” position. However, all other levers and control buttons for this engine were in a position that corresponded to the fact that the pilot deliberately turned off the engine [1] .
Another cause of the crash was the small flight experience of the pilot Kudryavtsev on a twin-engine aircraft (23 hours of independent flying on the Let L-200), especially when flying on a single engine. Due to insufficient practice, the pilot could in a hurry accept the erroneous opinion of turning off the engine. As a result, during the landing approach, the machine lost translational speed and fell into a tailspin [1] .
