Shupp, Emar de

Amar de Chouppes ( fr. Aymar de Chouppes ; 1612 - 1673 ) - French military leader, marquis . In some sources, the year of his death is incorrectly indicated the year 1677.

Biography

Born in Poitou.

Until 1625 he was a royal page, then from 1628 he served in the royal guard. In this capacity, he participated in the siege of La Rochelle and participated in all the campaigns of the period of the end of the reign of Louis XIII , for his military merit in 1643 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.

During the Fronde he joined the party of Prince Condé and put at his disposal an infantry regiment commanded by him from 1650.

Returning to service in 1653, he joined Prince Conti ’s forces and brought King Hyene and Perigord under control, then distinguished himself during a campaign in Catalonia , receiving the rank of lieutenant general from the government of Roussillon , who was deprived in 1661. After that, he was sent to Portugal for a while with a diplomatic mission, and in 1662 he was given command of the forces on Belle Ile .

Left a memoir (published in 1753 and reprinted in 1861).
