Arthur Gevorkovich Mikaelyan ( Armenian Արթուր Միքայելյան , Greek Αρτούρ Μικαελιάν ; born March 8, 1970 , Kirovakan , Armenian SSR ) - Soviet, Armenian and Greek boxer , two-time Armenian champion (1992, 1993), five-time champion of Greece (1997-2001), 1997-2001; , winner of the World Cup (1995) , participant in the Olympic Games (2000) .

Biography

Arthur Mikaelyan was born on March 8, 1970 in Kirovakan (now Vanadzor ). He started boxing at the age of 12 with Karlen Tumanyan. Since 1987, he trained under the leadership of Rafael Megrabyan. In 1989, he was a bronze medalist at the USSR Flyweight Championship. In 1990, he moved to the lightest weight category, became the winner of international tournaments in France [1] and Denmark [2] , received the title of " Master of Sports of the USSR of the international class ". In 1992-1996 he was a member of the Armenian national team, won the bronze medal of the World Cup in Berlin (1995) .

In 1997 he moved to Greece and later performed under the flag of this country. In 2000, he participated in the Olympic Games in Sydney , in 2001 he won the bronze medal of the Mediterranean Games in Tunisia and reached the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Belfast , where he lost to the outstanding Cuban boxer Guillermo Rigondo .

In 2002, he completed his sports career. In 2005-2009 he was engaged in coaching in the sports society " AEK ". In 2009-2010 he was the head coach of the Greek women's boxing team. Since 2010, she has been working as a trainer in the Athens boxing club Balios.
