Biography
No authentic evidence of the biography of Enrique de Malaki has been preserved. The Italian historian Antonio Pigafett , who most fully described the journey of Magellan, writes that de Malac was a black slave, originally from Sumatra . The name Enrique itself was apparently given to a slave at his baptism in the Catholic faith. The second part of the name is translated from Portuguese simply as "from Malacca".
Magellan bought Black Enrique in the slave market in Malaysia in 1511, then took him to Lisbon. Enrique accompanied his master on a world tour in 1521 . On board the ship, De Malaca served as a translator for the Spaniards.
After the death of Magellan on the island of Mactan, Enrique de Malaca leaves the expedition ship, the command over which was taken over by the deputy Magellan - Juan Sebastian Elcano . After that, the documented traces of Enrique are lost.
