Vosmera giant tortoise ( lat. Cylindraspis vosmaeri ) - a species of recently extinct giant land tortoises. Endemic to the Rodriguez Islands ( Mascarene Islands ) in the Indian Ocean . Extinct by 1786 due to extermination by humans and feral cats . The specific name is given in honor of Arnout Fosmaer (1720-1799) [1] .
