Game career
Streich began his career in 1983 at the Freiburger in Oberlig Baden-Württemberg . In his first season, his team won the league, but in the qualifying round for losing to the second Bundesliga they lost to Homburg and Burstadt .
In 1985, Streich moved to the Stuttgart Kickers , playing in the second Bundesliga. For two seasons, Christian played in only 21 matches and decided to leave the club. In 1987, Streich returned to Freiburg , signing a contract with the second Bundesliga club Freiburg .
A year later, the footballer became a player at Homburg . In its composition, Streich became vice champion of the second Bundesliga in 1989 and reached the first Bundesliga . In the 1989/90 Bundesliga season, Streich played in 10 matches, and Homburg took off, taking last place. Christian decided to end his professional career and play for Freiburger on a semi-professional level. In the 1991/92 season, he became the top scorer for Freiburger with 13 goals. In 1995, he completed his playing career after a fracture of the metatarsal bones .
Coaching career
In 1995, Streich took the post of coach of the youth team "Freiburg" (under 19 years). In 2006, 2009 and 2011, he led the team to victory in the German Cup. In 2008, the Freiburg juniors, led by Streich, won the German championship, defeating Wolfsburg in the final (2-0). After Robin Dutt became the head coach of Freiburg, Streich became Dutt's assistant in the first team, however, his main activity continued to be work in the youth team. Under his leadership, professional football players such as Dennis Aogo , Daniel Schwab , Emer Toprak , Oliver Baumann .
In the summer of 2011, Streich became an assistant to the new head coach of Freiburg, Markus Sorg [1] . In December of the same year, Sorg was fired due to poor results (3 wins in 17 matches), and on December 29 Streich became the new head coach of the team [2] . Freiburg led the second round successfully under the leadership of Streich: the team left the relegation zone and, after the 32nd round, issued a registration permit in the first Bundesliga. Thanks to these amazing successes and his unusual comments at press conferences, Streich received high media attention. The local TV channel Südbaden dedicated a video section to him, Streich der Woche ( Rus. Streich week ), which laid out videos of the most striking episodes from the trainer's speeches and which later came under the control of the newspaper Badische Zeitung.
Due to the unexpected successes and good play of Freiburg in the second round of the 2011/12 season, Streich took third place after Jürgen Klopp and Lucien Favre in the vote for the title of the best coach of the season [3] . In the 2012/13 season, “Freiburg”, to the surprise of many, took fifth place and entered the Europa League , and the head coach of the Streich team took second place in the vote for the title of the best coach of the season, losing to Jupp Heinkes , but ahead of Jurgen Klopp [4] . In a vote in which the Bundesliga players participate, Streich became the best coach of 2013 [5] . In 2013, Streich also received a prize for the best coach of the year in German football [6] [7] .
On May 10, 2013, Streich extended the contract expiring in 2014 with Freiburg [8] .
Personal life
Streich was born into a butcher's family and grew up working in his father's shop. He explains his friendly personality to his parents and their respect for customers. After completing his playing career, Streich completed training in German, sports and history courses, and, as a result, became a qualified teacher [9] . Streich is known for its "heavy" southwestern German dialect. Christian has a wife and two children. Streich takes a bicycle to the stadium for training and home games at Freiburg [10] .
