John Rockefeller was born in New York on June 18, 1937. At age 12, he entered the Phillips Academy in Exeter (New Hampshire), where he began to be interested in the Far East. He earned a degree in Asian languages and history at Harvard , and studied from 1957 to 1960 at Tokyo International Christian University. Rockefeller moved to West Virginia in 1964 as part of the Appalachian Youth Volunteer Program and became a social worker in the unincluded Emmons area [4] . He began his political career in 1966, moving from a republican party to a democratic party and becoming a candidate from Canova County to the House of Representatives . In 1967, Rockefeller married Sharon Percy, daughter of US Senator Charles Percy. In 1968, he ran for state secretary and won with an advantage of 155,000 votes. [5]
In January 1972, Rockefeller announced his candidacy for governor of the state. During the election, his opponent Arch Moore beat Rockefeller by 73 355 votes. During the election, Rockefeller defeated his Republican rival, Cecil Underwood, with an advantage of about 240,000 votes (495,659 to 253,423), the largest majority in state history. He spent about $ 2.8 million on the company. During his term, Rockefeller worked towards economic development. According to his recommendation, the organization of the state government was reorganized, departments of economy and human settlements appeared. In 1980, Rockefeller was re-elected. In 1984, John Rockefeller was elected to the US Senate, where he was then re-elected 4 times. As a senator, he continued his economic development activities.
