The European Speed Skating Championship of 1953 was held January 31 - February 1 in Hamar ( Norway ). The championship was held only among men at distances of 500 meters, 1500 meters, 5000 meters and 10,000 meters. 21 skaters from 7 countries took part in the competition. The champion of Europe was the Dutch runner Kees Brookman , the winners were the Netherlands Wim van der Worth and the Norwegian Karl Ivar Martinsen .
