Han Sinsu ( cor. 한승수 ? , 韓 昇 洙 ? ; December 28, 1926 , Chuncheon ) - South Korean politician and diplomat. He was the Prime Minister of Korea from February 29, 2008 to September 28, 2009 [1] ; in 2001 and 2002, he also chaired the 56th session of the United Nations General Assembly

Education
Han Seungsu received a bachelor's degree from Yon-sho University in 1960, a master's degree from Seoul University in 1963. He became a doctor of economics in 1968 at York University . He taught at many universities in the UK and South Korea .
Career
In 1988, he was first elected to the Parliament of the Republic of Korea . From 1993 to 1994, he was the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United States , from 1994 to 1995 the head of the administration of the then president, Kim Yong Sam, from 1996 to 1997, deputy prime minister and minister of finance.
In April 2001, Khan Seungsu was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, and in September of that year he was elected chairman of the General Assembly of the United Nations .
After a period of work at the UN, Han Seungsu returned to Korean politics and was re-elected to the Parliament of the Republic of Korea in 2002. In 2004, Queen Elizabeth II was knighted [2] .
Lee Myung-bak, after his victory in the 2007 election, appointed Khan Sungsu as Prime Minister of Korea. [3] His appointment was approved by Parliament on February 29, 2008: 270 voted in favor, 94 against. The Democratic Party , which considered Han Sinsu unsuitable for the role of prime minister, achieved a postponement of the vote from February 25 to 29, but in the end decided not to vote against, since it had already succeeded in canceling the appointment of three inconvenient ministers. In June 2008, Khan Seungsu was forced to resign along with his government because of protests over permission to import beef from the United States into South Korea. The president, however, left him in place, only slightly changing the composition of the government. [five]
After resigning as prime minister, Han Sinsu returned to UN activities. Now is a member of the Club of Madrid .
