Story
Amelia single-handedly raises her six-year-old son, Sam. The boy was born on the same day that her husband died, who took Amelia to the hospital. Sam begins to behave strangely: he sleeps badly at night and makes weapons to fight an imaginary monster. Amelia is forced to pick up her son from school because of his persistent behavioral problems.
One day Sam finds a book called Mr. Babaduk. It tells about a supernatural being that torments the one who learns about its existence. Amelia is alarmed by the content of the book, because because of her, Sam thinks that Babaduk is stalking him throughout the house.
Soon inexplicable things begin: the doors open and close on their own, Amelia finds pieces of glass in her food, and no visible source sounds. The woman relates what is happening to the son’s antics, while Sam insists that the monster Babaduk is to blame for everything. In the end, Amelia tears the book and throws it in the trash. Sam has a conflict with her cousin: Ruby does not believe in the existence of Babaduk and teases Sam because he has no father. As a result, Sam pushes her out of a treehouse, and Ruby breaks her nose. Amelia's sister warns Sam to stay away from her family.
During his return home, Sam sees the monster in a vision and is experiencing a seizure. Amelia convinces the doctor to write a prescription for soothing pills for her son. She hopes that this will allow her to sleep too, as she is also disturbed by sleep problems. One morning, Amelia hears a knock on the door and finds on the porch the restored book Mr. Babaduk. New pages appear in the book, on which it is written: “I can fight. I'll argue. You deny me - I get stronger. ” Amelia also reads that Babaduk will grow inside her, and sees pictures where she strangles the dog, kills Sam, and cuts his throat. In horror, Amelia burns a book. After receiving a terrible phone call, Amelia goes to the police, but due to the fact that the book is not provided as evidence, Amelia leaves with nothing. Horrible visions begin to visit her. At first it seems to her that cockroaches are crawling in the kitchen, then the image of Babaduk appears behind her unsuspecting neighbor. At night, the creature appears on the ceiling of the bedroom and penetrates Amelia.
Amid mental deterioration, Amelia becomes hostile and shows signs that she intends to harm Sam. Sam calls a neighbor, but Amelia in a fit of rage cuts the telephone cable. Amelia, whose consciousness was possessed by Babaduk, kills the dog, as was depicted in the book. During an argument, Sam puts a kitchen knife in Amelia’s leg and lures her into the basement. There, with the help of the traps set by him, the boy binds his mother. He begs a woman to fight the monster inside him. Amelia comes to life for a moment and begins to fight with Babaduk, gaining the upper hand over him. Amelia thinks the test is over, but an invisible force pulls her son up the stairs. Following the creature, Amelia finds Sam in the bedroom. Babaduk as Amelia’s deceased husband returns again and tries to take Sam from Amelia. Amelia stands in front of the creature and screams that she will kill him if he hurts her son. Babaduk loses his strength and retreats to the basement, after which the doors shut behind him.
Some time later, the life of Amelia and Sam takes on a semblance of a normal life. Having collected a large bowl of worms, Amelia goes down to the basement where Babaduk is imprisoned. She gives the worms to the creature to calm him down, and leaves to celebrate the seventh birthday of her son in the yard.
