Biography

Mikhail Trofimchuk was born on February 27, 1922 in the village of Sivakovtsy (now the Lipovetsky district of the Vinnitsa region of Ukraine ) [1] . He graduated from ten classes of the school. In 1939 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He graduated from the Ryazan Artillery School [2] .

Since the beginning of World War II, Trofimchuk was in the army, commanded an artillery battery. On August 5, 1942, Trofimchuk was wounded in a battle near Staraya Russa . He participated in battles on the North-Western and 2nd Baltic Fronts, repeatedly distinguished himself, and received several state awards [2] .

After the war, Trofimchuk continued his service in the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Kharkov Military Artillery Radio Engineering Academy of Air Defense. He served at the military training grounds " Kapustin Yar " and " Sary-Shagan ." In 1966 - 1970, Trofimchuk served as the head of the Sary-Shagan military training ground. In 1966, he was awarded the Lenin Prize for his active participation in the creation of the "A" anti-ballistic system. He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR [1] .

In 1970, Trofimchuk was transferred to Kiev to the post of head of the Kiev Military Engineering and Radio Engineering Technical School of Air Defense . During his leadership of the school, there was a complete re-equipment of his technical, educational, methodological, educational, field, scientific base, new departments and a faculty were opened. Significant development received research and rationalization activities. In addition, with the active participation of Trofimchuk, a school museum and a memorial to the Heroes of the Lutezh bridgehead were opened [1] .

In 1974, Trofimchuk with the rank of lieutenant general retired [1] . He lived in Kiev . He died on September 3, 1985 at the Burdenko hospital in Moscow [3] , and was buried at the Lukyanovsky military cemetery in Kiev.

He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , the Red Banner , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, three orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
