Kegalle ( Sinhala. කෑගල්ල දිස්ත්රික්කය , there. கேகாலை மாவட்டம் ) is one of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka . It is part of the province of Sabaragamuva . The administrative center is the city of Kegalle .

The area of the district is 1693 km² [1] . Located between the central highlands and plains in the south-west of the country.
According to the 2012 census, the district population is 837,179 people [2] . According to the last census of 2001, it numbered 785,524 people. In 2001, 85.89% of the population were Sinhalese ; 6.42% - laracalla ; 5.63% are Indian Tamils; 1.90% - Sri Lankan Tamils ; 0.04% are Malays; 0.02% are burghers and 0.11% are other ethnic groups. According to the same census, 84.99% of the population professed Buddhism ; 6.58% - Hinduism ; 6.58% is Islam and 1.82% is Christianity .
