Biography

Born in the family of an accountant.

He graduated from the 4th Moscow gymnasium , then - the historical and philological faculty of Moscow University , where he studied in 1905-1910 [1] , as well as the Moscow Archaeological Institute , where he was a student in 1907-1910. Pupil V.A. Gorodtsova .

Since 1920, in Saratov , he started working at the university: associate professor and head of the department of archeology (established on his initiative at the faculty of pedagogy), professor (approved in 1922, with the passing of master's exams), dean of the faculty of pedagogy (1924-1927, deputy 1923), Deputy Rector for Economic Affairs (until 1932); with the restoration of the history faculty in 1935, and before his arrest, his first dean and head of the department of the history of the ancient world and archeology [2] . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1930.

Since 1924 - Director of the Lower Volga Institute of Local History; at the same time since 1931 - professor, since 1932 - head of the department of general history of the Saratov Pedagogical Institute (was created in 1931 on the basis of the pedagogical faculty of the University of Saratov).

The initiator of the creation in Saratov (in 1922) and the permanent director (until 1937) of the Local History Institute for the Study of the South Volga Region (until 1924 - the Scientific Research Archaeological Institute). Director of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local Lore (1922-1937), successor to the ethnographer Professor B. M. Sokolov .

Creator of the first national museum of Kalmykia (1931). For many years - Chairman of the Saratov Society of Local History.

Arrested on August 14, 1937 [2] . On January 24, 1938, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison camps by a visiting session of the USSR Supreme Council in Saratov. Died in Vladlag .

Rehabilitated posthumously in 1956. Posthumously restored to the CPSU .

Wife - Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Rykova. Their children: Sergey, Elena.
