Tenericuts ( lat. Tenericutes ) - a type of extremely small bacteria that contains a single class - Mollicutes (mycoplasmas). Its representatives differ from other bacteria in the absence of a cell wall , and therefore, when stained by Gram, they manifest themselves as gram-negative bacteria . They are separated from the external environment only by the cell membrane . Their other feature is pronounced polymorphism (their internal structure and appearance may be different).

It is rather difficult to classify mycoplasmas , and for a long time they were referred to Firmicutes . Only in 1984 was the name of another type approved - tenericuts. It should also be noted that the term Mycoplasma is often used along with the term Mollicutes .
Tenericuts belong either to aerobes or to obligate anaerobes .
