Markus Vasmeier ( German: Markus Wasmeier , born September 9, 1963 , Schliers ) is a German skier , two-time Olympic champion, world champion, winner of the World Cup. Wagon, successfully performed in most types of skiing, except for slalom.

In the World Cup, Vasmeyer made his debut on January 29, 1984 , in February 1986 he won his first career victory at the World Cup stage, in the super giant. In total, he has 9 victories in the World Cup, 2 in downhill, 6 in the super giant and 1 in combination. The best achievement in the overall World Cup standings are for Vasmyer 3rd place in the 1985/86 and 1986/87 seasons, in the 1985/86 season he won the super giant standings.
At the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, he took 6th place in downhill skiing, 7th place in combination and 19th place in giant slalom, in addition, he started in the super giant, but did not reach the finish line.
At the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville, he was 4th in downhill, 5th in combination and 9th in super giant, also started in giant slalom but lost his distance.
At the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, he won two gold medals, winning the super giant and giant slalom, in addition he was 36th in the downhill and started but did not finish in combination. It is noteworthy that Vasmeier became the world champion and Olympic champion in giant slalom, but in the World Cup during his entire career he did not win a single stage in this discipline.
During his career he participated in five world championships , at the 1985 world championship he became the champion in giant slalom, and at the 1987 world championship he won bronze in the super giant.
He completed his sports career in 1994 , in the same year he was recognized as the athlete of the year in Germany. After that, he worked as a television commentator, and in 2007, in his native Schliers , he opened a winter sports museum, which is visited annually by about 100,000 people.
