Mikhail Dmitrievich Protasov ( October 20 [ November 1 ] 1842 - not earlier than 1900) - retired major general of the Russian army , participant in the Caucasian and Russian-Turkish (1877-1878) wars, military historian.

Biography
Orthodox religion.
As part of the Crimean Infantry Regiment, he participated in the campaign of 1859-1864 to conquer Western Circassia . During this campaign, for military distinctions he was promoted to the first officer rank of ensign ( February 28, 1863), and in 1865 he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the 3rd degree with swords and a bow. In 1867 he was promoted to second lieutenant , in 1869 - to lieutenant , and in 1872 - to captains of staff . In the same rank as commander of the 4th company of the Crimean regiment , which was part of the Erivan detachment , he took part in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 at the Caucasian theater of war [1] . On October 23, 1877, he was wounded [2] during the assault on the fortified Turkish position at Virgo Boyn . In the same year, for military distinction, he was promoted to captain (with seniority of June 9 , 1877) [3] , and was also awarded the Order of St. Anne of the 3rd degree with swords and a bow [4] . May 6, 1884 was promoted to lieutenant colonel with the transfer to the 16th Mingrel Grenadier Regiment [5] [6] .
On June 11 , 1895, he was promoted to colonel with the appointment of the commander of the Salyan reserve regiment , and a year later, on June 5, 1896, he was transferred by the Highest Order to the post of commander of the Shemakha reserve regiment (then the 261st infantry reserve Shemakha regiment ), while the commander of the Shemakha regiment was colonel A. G. Mamvriisky was relocated to his place in the Salyan regiment. He commanded the Shemakha regiment until the end of the service.
On October 24, 1900, he was dismissed from service with production as a major general, with a uniform and pension (on the basis of the provisional rules Highest approved on July 3 , 1899) [7] .
Protasov was married and had a daughter.
