History
The creation of the Syzran Museum of Local Lore is largely due to the initiative of Nikolai Viktorovich Guryev, chairman of the county statistical bureau and amateur historian. The basis for the local history museum was the agricultural museum. In fact, the history of the museum began with the agricultural and industrial exhibition of the Syzran district-city congress of Soviets, held on December 31, 1923. In the 1920s. Museum funds were accumulating: in 1925, items came from former noble estates: from the estates of the princes Gagarin (Zaborovka village), the Usolsky estate of the counts Orlov-Davydov, the Nasakins estate (Gubino village of the Syzran district), as well as a collection of minerals up to the Jurassic period . In the same year, the museum was given a stone building, where on December 28, 1925 the first exhibition of the museum, called the Museum of the Local Territory, was opened for visitors.
In 1927, the museum’s collection was replenished with paintings by artists I. I. Shishkin , A. K. Savrasov , I. K. Aivazovsky , which made up the art department of the museum.
During the Great Patriotic War, the museum continued to operate. In 1949, the Museum of the local region was renamed the Syzran Museum of Local Lore.
In the 1960-1990s. The Syzran Museum of Local Lore continued to expand its exhibition space: it opened branches - the City Exhibition Hall (Chernukhin's mansion) and the Spasskaya Tower of the Syzran Kremlin.
