Biography
Zelman Yudelevich Rabinovich was born on February 7 (January 25, old style) in 1902 in Vilna (now Vilnius , Lithuania ), in the family of Yudel Kaufmanovich and Rokhl Geselevna Rabinovich, natives of Malyat [1] . In 1919 - 1921 he served in the Worker and Peasant Red Army , participated in the battles of the Civil and Soviet-Polish Wars. In 1921-1924 he was on long-term vacation. Since August 1924, Rabinovich again served in the Red Army. In 1932, Rabinovich graduated from the F.E.Dzerzhinsky Military Academy, and in 1936 - from the Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization. He served in command and staff positions in tank units [2] .
Since the beginning of World War II - in the army. Participated in battles on the South-Western , Western , Bryansk , Central and 1st Belorussian fronts. He fought the chief of staff of the 35th Panzer Division of the 9th Mechanized Corps , then the chief of staff of the 31st Tank Brigade, the chief of the operational department of the headquarters of the 4th Panzer Corps. In September 1942, Rabinovich was injured. Since January 1943, he served as chief of staff of the 1st Panzer Corps . For the decision to withdraw two brigades during the battles near Spas-Demensk, Rabinovich was sentenced to 8 years in prison and sent to the front, after which he was reduced to the post of chief of staff of the 23rd tank brigade. Already in December of the same year he was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the 9th Panzer Corps, for some time even served as commander of this corps. Later he participated in the liberation of the Byelorussian SSR and Poland , the battles in Germany , including the assault on the Zeelov Heights and Berlin [3] .
After the war, Rabinovich continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1945, he was awarded the title of Major General. Since March 1946, he commanded the 11th, then the 4th Guards Tank Division. From September of that same 1946 to September 1950, General Rabinovich served as chief of staff of the 6th Guards Mechanized Army of the Trans-Baikal Military District , and from January 1951 he served as chief of staff of the armored and mechanized forces of the Kiev Military District . He ended his service as deputy tank commander of the 128th Rifle Corps of the Belarusian Military District . In June 1954, Rabinovich was sacked. He lived in Kiev . He died on April 6, 1968, was buried at the Lukyanovsky military cemetery in Kiev [2] .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin , three orders of the Red Banner , orders of Suvorov 2nd degree, Kutuzov 2nd degree, World War 1 degree and Red Star , a number of medals [3] [4] .
