Dump ( English Dump, Dompe ) - English musical genre of the XVI - beginning of the XVII centuries. The name probably comes from the Old English domp - “sadness” or the Swedish dumpin - “melancholic” .
Dumps were usually written in dvuhdolnom size , for a solo instrument, but it was not a dance genre. A number of extant dumps are variations on a constant bass. For example, “Dump for Milady Carey” by an unknown author from the English handwritten collection of 1525.
