Biography

Nikola Pushkarov was born on December 14, 1874, in the Bulgarian city of Pirdop , shortly before the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke . Brother of General Stoyan Pushkarov . He received his primary education in his hometown, graduated from a gymnasium in Sofia , and taught in Mirkovo . In the period 1898-1901. Pushkarov studied natural sciences at the Sofia Higher School .

Then Pushkarov moved to Macedonia and began teaching at the Skopsk Bulgarian Gymnasium . In Skopje, he became a member of the Inner Macedonian-Odrinsk Revolutionary Organization . In 1902, he received a task from Gotse Delchev to strengthen the Skopsky revolutionary district with cadres. Soon, Nikola Pushkarov was elected chairman of the Skopsky revolutionary committee. Before the start of the Ilinden Uprising of 1903, he brought a couple of 18 people from Bulgaria, delivering 100 kg of dynamite and 200 bombs. Pushkarov led rebel forces in the Skopsky District [1] . In Bulgaria, Pushkarov devoted himself to scientific work. He studied soil types, compiled a map of the tract "Sofia Field", highlighting chernozems, "chernozem soils", meadow soils, terra-terraces on limestone, marsh and "alluvial" (floodplain) soils; All these soils were given a detailed profile chemical characterization. In 1931, Pushkarov created the first soil map of Bulgaria.

After the First World War, Pushkarov for some time was a member of the Temporary Representation of the Inner Macedonian-Odrinsk Revolutionary Organization [2] , which ceased its activity in 1919-1920.

He died on February 18, 1943 [3] .

He was married to Slavka Chakyrova-Pushkarova from Struga .

Memory

Pushkarov’s home in Pirdop is now a memorial house-museum (Pirdop, St. Nikola Pushkarov No. 4). The name Pushkarova was assigned to the Institute of Soil Science in Sofia [4] .
