In 1850, he made a fundamental philosophical work entitled “The Experience of Gradually Presenting the Schelling System, Considered in Connection with the Systems of Other German Philosophers”. I. G. Mikhnevich - author of works on the theory of philosophical knowledge and logic. He was interested in questions of the correlation of mind and feelings, rational and moral, speculative and true wisdom. He considered the basis of knowledge to be a spiritual principle; in his opinion, in the world of the Orthodox religion, philosophy takes on a “sublime” direction, its mental vision expands, and it embraces the whole of being concentrated in its supreme beginning:

Our philosophy is so akin to religion that it is used to thinking in its spirit, expressed in its language, finding its representatives in the circle of people who study the truths of the mind along with the dogmas of Revelation. “Seeds of false wisdom”, if they were brought to us, they could never graft onto our fertile soil, which is so imbued with the spirit of the gospel teaching that it cannot accept anything that is inconsistent with the principles of morality and religion, which are unshakable the prosperity of Russia is held. There was not, no, and - let us say more to the honor of the Russian people - we will never have that vain speculation which, in a violent pursuit of omniscience, subverts everything sacred and cherished; but there was, is, and will be that true wisdom, which, without going beyond the boundaries of the mind, is always ready to bow down to faith where nature itself has put a limit to mental inquiry.

Highlighting the two basic laws of philosophy - the "law of nature" (mental activity) and the "law of God" (the foundations of religious teaching), he continued the traditions of Ukrainian religious philosophy of the XVIII - early XIX centuries.
