Career

Steen was born and lived in Winnipeg until the age of twelve, where his father Thomas Steen played for Winnipeg Jets [1] . He has dual Swedish and Canadian citizenship.

After returning to Sweden, Steen began performing at a youth level. Starting from the 2001–2002 season, he spent 189 matches and scored 82 points in four years in Frölund and MODO . In the NHL draft of 2002, Steen was chosen as the total number 24 by the Toronto Maple Leafs . From 2005 to 2008, Steen played for Toronto, but the team never got to the playoffs [1] . January 4, 2007 in the game against the “ Boston Bruins ” Steen made a hat-trick , adding to him two more assists [2] . In the fall of 2008, at the beginning of the next season, Leafs exchanged Alexander in the St. Louis Blues .

In the 2009/10 season, Steen scored 24 goals, which was his best result in his career. At the end of the season, he signed a new contract with Blues for $ 13.5 million over four years [1] . In October 2013, Steen was recognized as the first star of the month in the NHL: in the starting 10 games of the season, he scored 11 goals and scored 16 points [3] . In December, he extended the contract for another 3 years in the amount of $ 17.4 million.

In the 2013/14 season, I updated my personal sniper record, scoring 33 goals, and entered the top 15 NHL snipers.

In September 2016, he signed a 4-year contract worth $ 23 million, which came into effect from the 2017/18 season.
