Nieembuku ( Spanish eembucú ) is a department in Paraguay , covering an area of 12,147 km², with a population of 82,846 people (2007). The administrative center is the city of Pilar . The department is almost entirely rural, and there are also some of the oldest and best preserved Jesuit ruins located near the city of Umaita .

Borders
In the west and south it borders with Argentina , it is limited by the Paraguay river in the west and the Parana river in the south, it has a border with the Central department in the north, and in the east with the departments of Paraguari and Misiones .
