Synopsis

Supercomputer WOTAN reveals its true essence and prepares a plan to capture the Earth

Story

The TARDIS lands in London next to the BT Tower . Doctors do not leave the feeling of having strange energy nearby. He visits the tower with Dodo and meets with Professor Brett, the creator of WOTAN. In this operation, they need AN alogues, an advanced computer. To the surprise of the heroes, he even knows what the TARDIS is. After 4 days, WOTAN will be connected to the rest of the main computers, including the White House , Canaveral and the Royal Navy .

Dodo and Polly, Brett's secretary, go to the local Inferno nightclub, where they meet sailor Ben Jackson, while the Doctor attends a meeting at the Royal Science Club about WOTAN, held by Sir Charles Summer. But before Brett leaves for the meeting from the tower, he is hypnotized by the rumble published by WOTAN. He leads Krimpton, an electronics specialist, from a meeting to WOTAN, and he is also captured by a computer. Major Green, the security chief of the tower, is also captured, and he sends WOTAN Dodo control signals over the phone in a nightclub. She returns to the tower, and WOTAN tells her: "A doctor is needed, bring him here."

WOTAN concludes that humanity will not be able to further develop the world, and decides to take over the world with the help of military vehicles, mobile computers like him. Using hypnotic control, WOTAN recruits workers to build 12 military vehicles in London, which will be the first captured capital. One of these is being built at a warehouse in Covent Garden next to the Inferno Club. The Doctor, Dodo, Ben and Polly go to Sir Charles's residence, where the Doctors were invited, in a taxi, from which the tramp leaves next to the nightclub. In search of an overnight stay, he discovers Brett and the workers building Machine 3 in a warehouse. He is caught and killed while trying to escape. The next day, Dodo tries to bring the Doctor to Brett’s phone in the tower, and he is almost captured by WOTAN. Thinking that the Doctor is in control, she reveals to him a plan: military vehicles are being built at key points in London. The doctor removes hypnosis from her, and she is sent to the village to the wife of Sir Charles.

When Polly does not show up for dinner with Ben, the Doctor sends him to investigate the area around the nightclub after reading about the death of a tramp in the newspaper. Ben also finds a war machine in stock, tested under the supervision of Major Green. The machine discovers Ben and is caught by a mesmerized Polly. But she also saves him, saying that WOTAN needs every slave. Working with others, Ben learns that 12 cars attack at noon. He escapes, and Polly does not stop him, and warns the Doctor and Sir Charles. Polly is sent to the tower for punishment WOTAN.

Following the instructions of Sir Charles, the army inspects the warehouse, but all of their weapons turn off the machine. They try to retreat, but the Doctor stands in front of the machine, and it stops: it is not fully programmed. With the deactivation of Machine 3, workers, including Green, are freed from control. Examining the machine program, the Doctor discovers that there are 11 more cars all over London, and they are attacking today at noon. Soon they discover Car 9, delivered to the streets. With the help of the army, the Doctor captures the car in an electromagnetic field, paralyzing it, and programs it to destroy the WOTAN. Ben goes to the tower before Machine 9 and pulls Polly out of the WOTAN room when the car enters the room and destroys the stationary computer. Krimpton is killed, but WOTAN, giving orders to the other 10 cars, is destroyed, and all the hypnotized ones return to normal.

Ben and Polly meet the Doctor next to the TARDIS to explain that Dodo has decided to stay. The doctor thanks them, and enters the booth, followed by Ben and Polly, to return the Dodo key to him. They unexpectedly set off on a journey in space and time ...
