Overview
Released on November 28, 2014 in Australia and December 2, 2014 in the rest of the world, Rock or Bust became a kind of continuation of their work since 2008, when the previous international studio album Black Ice was released. [2]
He also became the first album of the group, recorded without a former member of the band and rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young , who left them due to health problems in 2014. [3] Malcolm’s departure was later explained by the group and their management, stating that the musician was officially diagnosed with " dementia " and that he may never play again.
Before the official announcement of "Rock or Bust", Brian Johnson admitted that the album was difficult to record without Malcolm Young, and that the idea was to name the album Man Down, but the members of the group considered that such a name would be too negative regarding Malcolm's situation and the health problem in whole [four]
On November 6, 2014, drummer Phil Rudd was arrested for trying to hire two people to kill. [5] [6] On the same day, AC / DC made a statement: “From the emergency news, we just became aware of Phil's arrest. We have no comments. Phil's absence will not affect our new album Rock or Bust and the upcoming tour next year. ” It is also not yet clear whether Rudd will remain among their musicians, and who could replace him. [7] The charge of hiring for Rudd's murder was dropped the next day, but charges were left for possession of methamphetamine, cannabis and the threat of murder. [eight]
Record Album
The album was recorded at Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, Canada. Produced recording Brendin O'Brien, and the mixing was performed by Mike Fraser ( born Mike Fraser ). [3] When Rudd was late for the recording session in the last ten days, O'Brien was ready to replace him with another drummer, but Rudd appeared and recorded his parts. [9]
The compositions were mainly collected by Angus from material accumulated by the brothers during the recording of previous albums. [9]
Singles
The first single Play Ball was first used on September 27, 2014 in the trailer for the Major League Baseball on TBS ( English Major League Baseball on TBS ) games, [10] and the single was released on October 7, when the information was disclosed to the tracklist and artwork . [11] It also became available on iTunes for those who pre-ordered the album.
The second single was the song "Rock or Bust", the official video for which was shot on October 4, 2014 in front of 500 fans in London. The single was released on November 17, 2014. It happened by chance when the track was downloaded instead of “Play Ball” under the AC / DC account on YouTube. The single has nothing to do with the 2007 song “Rock 'n' Roll or Bust” by singer Dave Evans.
Rudd was absent from both videos for singles and was replaced by Welsh Bob Richards, who had previously played with the Man band ( English Man (band) ), Adrian Smith , Asia band and Shogun. [12]
Promotour
In 2015, the band went on a world tour in support of the album “Rock or Bust” and in honor of the 40th anniversary of the band. [13] Malcolm Young was replaced by Angus' nephew Steve Young. [3] Chris Slade joined the group instead of Phil Rudd and took part in the tour. [9]
Criticism
The album received mostly positive and warm reviews, collecting 75 points on the Metacritic resource based on 22 reviews. [14]
