It was first described in 2000 by American entomologists Roger Price (Price Roger D .; St. Paul, Minnesota, USA ) and Robert M. Timm (University of Kansas, Lawrence) [1] . Currently (together with the species Abrocomophaga chilensis and Abrocomophaga hellenthali Price & Timm, 2000) it is included in the Gyropidae family of the suborder Amblycera . The name is given in honor of the zoologist Louise Emmons (Emmons H. Louise, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution), who collected a typical series [3] [2] .
