PJ Morton ( Paul Morton Jr. Paul Morton, Jr , March 29, 1981 ) - American singer, musician and producer. Currently, he is best known as the keyboard player and backing vocalist of the pop rock band Maroon 5 [1] [2] . He also leads a solo career.

Biography

PJ Morton was born March 29, 1981 in New Orleans , Louisiana . The musician's father is Canadian and American gospel singer Paul Sylvester Morton, his mother is Debra Brian Morton.

Musical career

In 2010, friend PJ Morton and Maroon 5 music director Adam Blackstone invited the musician to audition for the role of a keyboard player for the group [3] . Morton was a successful candidate and Blackstone enlisted him in the composition. Since that time, Morton began work with Maroon 5; the musician played at all concerts and other "live" performances of the collective. In 2012, Jesse Carmichael temporarily left Maroon 5, and PJ joined the group on an ongoing basis [4] . The musician took part in the recording of the albums Overexposed and V.

Morton started producing in 2011 , from the moment he signed a contract with Young Money Records. [5] Soon, Morton was spotted by Cash Money Records . After signing the contract, PJ began a partnership with Lil Wayne , Birdman , Ronald Williams and others.

Among other things, Morton recorded several solo studio albums : Emotions ( 2005 ), Perfect Song ( 2007 ), Walk Alone ( 2010 ) [6] . On May 14, 2013, the musician released the fourth full-length album New Orleans [7] [8] , in which Adam Levin , Basta Rimes and others took part in the work [9] . The song “Only One”, recorded by Morton in a duet with Stevie Wonder , was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category “Best R&B Song” in 2014 [10] .

Other activities

In 2008, PJ Morton, at the request of All Rakh Rahman , the composer of the film “ Formula of Love for Prisoners of Marriage, ” took part in the recording of the composition “Sajna” for the soundtrack to the motion picture [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] .

In 2009, Morton published a book called Why Can't I Sing About Love? where he brought his thoughts about the interaction of music and religion [16] .

Personal life

PJ is currently married to Courtney Morton. [17]
