Design
MAS 526 was 1.7 m longer than the boats of the previous series, had a wooden hull, except for the last ship of the series (MAS 550), the hull of which was metal. The MAS 550 reached speeds of 45 knots due to its lower draft and narrower body.
Power plant
Two Isotta-Fraschini gas engines with a total capacity of 2000 - 2300 liters. with. allowed boats to reach speeds of 42–44 knots . In addition to the main engines, on boats of this series, two Alfa Romeo gasoline motor engines (70 hp each) or Kararo (50 hp each) were additionally installed to ensure economic progress. When driving in economic speed at a speed of 6 knots (11 km / h), the cruising range was 1100 miles.
Armament
The armament of the boats included two 450-mm torpedoes, 6 depth charges for fighting submarines and one 13.2-mm machine gun.
