- January 15
- A Pentagon spokesman said the US plans to send 400 military instructors to train the Syrian opposition. [31]
- January 17
- Muslims in Zinder, Niger’s second largest city, protesting against the new cartoon of the prophet Mohammed, which appeared on the cover of the latest issue of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo , burned a French cultural center, as well as two Catholic and one evangelical church. - In the Ukrainian city of Mariupol , the Vostochny microdistrict was fired from the Grad and Hurricane installations. Killed 31 [52] and injured at least 117 [53] [54] people.
