Semyon Osipovich Gendre (1738-1795) - major general of the Russian imperial army, Kazan commandant, one of the heroes of the Seven Years and the Russo-Turkish War (under Empress Catherine II ).

Biography
Simon Gendre was born in 1738; came from nobles . At the age of ten, he began serving in the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment , where he entered the company as quartermaster on February 28, 1748 [1] .
In 1754, Gendre was promoted to ensign and first transferred to the Yamburg Dragoon Regiment as an auditor, and then received the post of adjutant in the Ingermanland Regiment [1] .
In 1757, during the Seven Years' War, he was in the Ryazan Horse-Grenadier Regiment and participated in the Battle of Gross-Egersdorf [1] .
During the Polish war of 1767-1768, a detachment under his command defeated the corps of Prince Lyubomirsky and other full detachments [1] .
During the Russo-Turkish War (1768-1774) Semyon Osipovich Gendre was entrusted with the command of the Cossack regiments located near Khotyn. On August 29, 1769, he attacked the enemy and recaptured nineteen banners from him; then he participated in the battle of Ishmael and captured an enemy detachment near the Elptsa River. The reward for these military affairs was the rank of colonel, granted to him on November 8, 1770 [1] .
In 1771, he was with the Serbian Hussar Regiment in Romania , where he participated in the battle near Bucharest and the subsequent pursuit of the enemy to the fortified city of Giurgiu and in the capture of the latter, and also participated with honors in all the following campaigns (1772-1774) [ 1] .
In 1776, he was transferred to the Caucasus and, commanding a brigade, operated in the Kuban against the Tatars who rebelled under the leadership of Khan Shakhin-Geray [1] .
On December 3, 1776, the Genre was promoted to major general and appointed Kazan commandant; in this position he was until his death [1] .
Semyon Osipovich Gendre died in 1795 [1] .
